Ryan DeTamble
Political Scientist
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Oklahoma State University. I study American politics, and my research focuses on questions of political behavior, especially those related to competitiveness, public opinion, epistemic hubris, intellectualism, anti-intellectualism, American populism, voting, ideology, partisanship, polarization, and the political impacts of education. Some of this work has been featured in outlets like The American Political Science Review, American Politics Research, and Legislative Studies Quarterly.
My dissertation explored the relationship between personal competitive natures and political ideology. This work is part of a larger book project on the political manifestations of personal competitiveness.
I also recently served as the Managing Editor of Congress & The Presidency, a peer reviewed interdisciplinary journal of political science and history, published by American University's Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies since 1984. I previously worked as an Editorial Assistant with the American Journal of Political Science.
Prior to attending American University, I obtained a B.S. in Political Science at Texas Christian University, during which time I was blessed to receive several honors, including the Chancellor's Scholarship and the Riddlesperger Award.
